Art Is Not a Crime 1977-1987 was the first major retrospective devoted to the work of photographer and documentary film-maker Henry Chalfant (USA, 1940), the leading ambassador of graffiti culture.
The exhibition, curated by SUSO 33, celebrated the 35th anniversary of the release of Chalfant's legendary documentary Style Wars and the publication of the book Subway Art, thanks to which the whole world discovered the existence of graffiti on underground carriages and hip-hop culture, which changed forever the way we understand, experience and relate to art in the city.
